William Yeatman (born April 10, 1988) is an American football offensive tackle for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL).[1] He played college football as well as college lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Maryland. Yeatman was signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on July 27, 2011.[2][3] On September 4, 2011, he was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins.[4][5]

Early years[]

Yeatman was born in Naples, Italy, to parents Dennis and Bonnie Yeatman. His father played lacrosse for the United States Naval Academy.[2] Yeatman has four siblings: Grant; Caroline; Anne Morgan, who plays lacrosse at Maryland; and Jack, who will be playing lacrosse at the Providence University.[2][6]

Yeatman was raised in San Diego, California, and attended Rancho Bernardo High School, where he played football (as a tight end) and lacrosse. As a junior, he recorded 26 receptions for 340 yards and four touchdowns.[2] As a senior, he recorded 36 receptions for 527 yards and seven touchdowns.[2] He was a three-time all-conference and all-city selection in football, and an all-state selection in his senior year. In lacrosse he was team captain in his senior year, was a four-time all-conference and all-city selection, and was named to the US Lacrosse All-American team as a junior and senior and to the Under Armour All-American team as a senior.[2]

College career[]

Following high school, Yeatman attended the University of Notre Dame, where he played both lacrosse (named All American) and football.[2][7][8] As a freshman, he recorded no receptions. As a sophomore, he recorded six receptions for 37 yards.[2]

On January 28, 2008, Yeatman was arrested for driving on a sidewalk on the Notre Dame campus. In February 2008, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.[8] As a junior in fall 2008, Yeatman started the first three games.[2] He was suspended for the rest of the season after being arrested on September 21 during a police raid at a house party and charged with minor consumption of alcohol, resisting arrest and false informing. The latter two charges were subsequently dropped.[8][9]

In January 2009, Yeatman transferred from Notre Dame to the University of Maryland. He played lacrosse at Maryland for his final two seasons in college, and also played football in his senior season. In football he played on special teams (making three tackles) and at tight end.[2] Yeatman played in the last eleven games of the season, having fractured a finger during the pre-season. He recorded 13 receptions for 134 yards.[2] In lacrosse, Yeatman was fourth on the team his scoring both his Junior and Senior seasons, as the Terrapins reached the NCAA lacrosse quarterfinal both years.

Professional career[]

New England Patriots[]

Yeatman was signed by the New England Patriots as a rookie free agent on July 27, 2011.[3] In a Patriots conference call on August 23, 2011, Yeatman said he did not plan to play much lacrosse in the future.[10]

In the first two games of the 2011 pre-season, Yeatman recorded four receptions for 23 yards.[1] He was waived on September 3.[4]

Miami Dolphins[]

On September 4, 2011, Yeatman was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins.[4][5]
