Early life[]

Rondell Mealey was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He played high school football at Destrehan High School (Destrehan, Louisiana) where he was a teammate of Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed.[2] Mealey was an LSU Tiger during his college playing days. His college career highlight was undoubtedly the 1997 Independence Bowl. Filling in for an injured Kevin Faulk, Mealey rushed for 222 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead LSU to a 27-9 victory over Notre Dame. His performance led to Mealey being inducted into the Independence Bowl Hall of Fame in June, 2010.[3]

Professional career[]

Rondell Mealey was drafted in the seventh round (252nd pick overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.[4] While a Packer Mealey served mainly as a backup running back, seeing playing time in only 14 games over two seasons. He was placed on waivers by the team in September, 2002. Despite interest from and tryouts for teams like the Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Houston Texans, Mealey has to date not played again professionally.[5] As of late 2010 Mealey was working for Marathon Oil at a refinery in southern Louisiana[6][7]
