Roger Alvin LeClerc (born October 1, 1936) is a former American football player and coach in the United States. He played defensive tackle and placekicker professionally and coached at the college level for one season.
Playing history[]
LeClerc played eight seasons for the Chicago Bears in the National Football League. He was primarily the placekicker in an era when straight ahead kicking under 50 yards was the preferred style. During his playing career the soccer style kicking that is familiar today was already being used by teams. He was the second leading scorer in team history for years with 377 points, but with the modern game, he has slipped to 8th place. He kicked the winning field goal in the 1963 NFL Championship Game against the New York Giants. His best season was 1965. After he retired, LeClerc was a math teacher for thirty years. He has a son who has played college quarterback at the University of New Hampshire.
Coaching career[]
LeClerc was the head college football coach for the Westfield State Owls located in Westfield, Massachusetts and he held that position for the 1982 season. His coaching record at Westfield State was 2 wins and 7 losses. As of the conclusion of the 2010 season, this ranks him #4 at Westfield State in total wins and #4 at the school in winning percentage (.222).[1]
