Rich A Salzer played football for Annandale High School, the University of Hawai'i and in the USFL and AFL. A member of the Arena Football HoF Committee, and Hawai'i ring of Honour.
Rich A Salzer was born in Alexandria, Virginia on October 23rd, 1962. He grew up in Annandale Virgina. His father (Big) Rich Salzer was of Hungarian background and his mother was Scots-Irish, French-Canandian and American Indian. Her name is Pat E. Dolan.
Salzer played three sports at Annandale (Va.) High School and was a member of the 1978-79 Undefeated 14-0-0 National High School Football Champion Atoms.
Played four years @ the University of Hawai'i as a QB/P/H/RB/WR/S.
Played for Pittsburgh & Orlando in the USFL (1984-85) And in the Arena Football League for Chicago Politians, Miami Vise and Chicago Bruisers in 1987-86.
His father Big Rich and Granddad F. C. 'Hap' Salzer were pro football players as well in the Canadian Football League. He has since covered the AFL and other Pro Football Leagues on SIRIUS Radio and several Hawai'i sports radio shows. He was also in a band called the Bad Dolphins with Nick Franzen and Vic Garcia. They played their own material and covers of The Bun E Carlos Experience and Cheap Trick from 1981-87 when Jon B Brant was the bassist, and other bands like Jason & the Scorchers and Webb Wilder. The band cut several vinyl records here and there and were marked by Salzer's bass guitar collection which included two of Brant's former Cheap Trick basses. Salzer also played guitar, ukelele and harmonica occasionally. His humour was much like Rick Nielsen, and Franzen and Garcia both played drumms and guitars as this was a power trio. Salzer was married to a former runner-up Miss Honolulu and they had one daughter, Juliana. A lover of cats, photography, music and travel, he later became a Christian-Preterist minister and third party politico. His late Aunt Barbara Brindle of Sparta, N.J. was the most knowledgable person on the Hawai'i Five-0 Series and they ran the Hawai'i Five-0 fan club for mnay years before her death. He lives somewhere in the western states today and there is a teenage sound alike tribute band out today with the same name.
The third player signed by the Arena Football League in 1986, he played in both the 'Test' (Preseason) game and 'Showcase' (preseason) game, before the Arena League kicked off it's inaugural 1987 1st season. Voting member of the Virginia Sports HoF. And is a member at large of the Arena Football Hall of Fame Committee which chooses the Final HoF players every othere season since 2011. Is a member of the Hawai'i U. sports ring. Is being considered for the Arena HoF himself in recent voting.
