John Phillips (born June 11, 1987) is an American football tight end for the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Virginia.
Early life
Phillips played high school football, basketball, and baseball at Bath County High School in Hot Springs, Virginia earning many awards in the district and regional and was an all-state defensive end and tight end.
Professional career
Dallas Cowboys
Phillips was drafted by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. In 2009, he had 7 catches for 62 yards, while mostly being the blocking tight end.
Phillips was looking to have an increased role in the offense in 2010, but his season was cut short in the preseason opener, where he suffered a season-ending ACL tear.
Phillips had another productive season as a backup for the Cowboys in 2011. He had 15 catches for over 100 yards and a touchdown in 2011. John Phillips started 7 games for the Cowboys, serving mainly as a fullback or blocking tight end.

Phillips signed with the San Diego Chargers on March 12, 2013.[1]
