John L. Keith was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at Northern Illinois University from 1899 to 1903 and at Illinois State University in 1907, compiling a career college football record of 25–6–7. Keith was also the head basketball coach at Northern Illinois for one season in 1904–05.

Keith was the first head coach for the Northern Illinois University Huskies located in DeKalb, Illinois and he held that position for five seasons, from 1899 until 1903.mmHis career coaching record at Northern Illinois was 17 wins, 6 losses, and 5 ties. This ranks him ninth at Northern Illinois in total wins and third at Northern Illinois in winning percentage.[1]
Illinois State[]
Keith later became the sixth head football coach for the Illinois State Redbirds in Normal, Illinois and he held that position only for the 1907 season. His record at ISU was 8 wins, 0 losses, and 2 ties. This ranks him 13th at ISU in terms of total wins and second at ISU in terms of winning percentage.[2]
