Herman Stegeman was the 15th head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs for three seasons from 1920 to 1922. Over the course of those three seasons, he led the Bulldogs to a combined 20–6–3 record and the team's second conference championship.

The 1920 Georgia Bulldogs football team had an 8–0–1 record and was also co-champion of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association: co-champions Georgia Tech and Tulane were also undefeated. Georgia outscored its opponents 247–17. This was the Georgia Bulldogs' first season under the guidance of head coach Herman Stegeman and the team's second undefeated season in its history.

The 1921 Georgia Bulldogs football team had an 7–2–1 record, and was also co-champion of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association: co-champion Vanderbilt was also undefeated. Their only two losses coming against two of the football powerhouses of the day, Harvard and Dartmouth. This was the team's second season under the guidance of head coach Herman Stegeman.
The victory against Furman on October 8, 1921 was the 100th victory in the history of the Georgia Bulldogs football program.

The 1922 Georgia Bulldogs football team had an 5–4–1 record and was the first Georgia team to compete in the newly formed Southern Conference, which was formed when a group of teams left the SIAA after the end of the 1921 season. This was the Georgia's third and final season under the guidance of head coach Herman Stegeman. One of the players on the 1922 team was All-American tackle Joe Bennett.
The September 30, 1922 game against Mercer, was the 200th football game played by Georgia. Including the victory over Mercer, Georgia's cumulative record over its first 200 games was 107–72–21, a winning percentage of 0.588.
