At 5'11" and 175 pounds, Earl Francis "Jug" Girard (January 25, 1927 – January 17, 1997) was a multi-talented American football player who played ten seasons in the National Football League as an end, punter and kick-off returner, mainly for the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions from 1948 to 1957. He also played quarterback and defensive back early in his career.

Career

A University of Wisconsin All-American in 1944, "Jukin' Jug" had a total of 703 yards in his NFL career, 194 rushing for 3.6 average yards, and 109 pass receptions. His best year was in 1954 with Detroit, when he caught 27 passes for 7 touchdowns and 421 yards. In 1957, Girard played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the last year of his career.
