Chuck Shelton was the 21st head college football coach for the Drake University Bulldogs located in Des Moines, Iowa and he held that position for nine seasons, from 1977 until 1985. His overall coaching record at Drake was 40 wins, 59 losses, and 0 ties. This ranks him sixth at Drake in terms of total wins and 19th at Drake in terms of winning percentage.[1] He was the head coach at two schools (Drake and Pacific) when they canceled their football program. Drake brought it back for the 1987 school year, but Shelton had already left as head coach.
He also coached at Utah State University and University of the Pacific.
