HISTORY OF THE AFL The Alaska Football League is an amateur football league that works with young adults out of high school or college, giving them an opportunity to develop their skills to help further their football careers.

The League’s mission statement is as follows; The Alaska Football League will regulate and promote the highest level of amateur football in order to provide athletes an opportunity to develop and advance their football careers. The AFL will strive to provide family entertainment while encouraging competitiveness and exercising sportsmanship.

The AFL was formed in 2008 by Abe Hernandez as a developmental league for the Alaska Wild indoor professional football team. The AFL has been operating for ten years now. In 2008 the AFL started playing its games at the Anchorage Football Stadium. In 2010 the league moved indoor to an 8 man version at the AT&T Sports Pavilion. After 4 successful years in indoor the league moved back to the Anchorage Football Stadium for the 2015 season.

In that time the AFL has had over 600 young men participate in the league, playing for one of our 6 league teams. Some of these have advanced to the college level and even signed professional contracts. We are very proud of our achievements and the hard work and support of the people connected with the AFL.
