The 2014 Rose Bowl, the 100th edition of the annual game, is a college football bowl game played on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the same-named stadium in Pasadena, California.[2] The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association is the organizer of the game.[3] The game matches the champions from the Big Ten Conference against the champions of the Pac-12 Conference for the Rose Bowl Championship.
Because of sponsorship by Vizio, the first game in the 2014 edition of the Bowl Championship Series is officially titled the Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO. The contest is televised on ESPN with a radio broadcast on ESPN Radio and XM Satellite Radio, which begins at 1:30 PM (PST) with kickoff at 2:10 PM (PST).
The Rose Bowl Game, themed Dreams Come True, is a contractual sell-out, with 64,500 tickets allocated to the participating teams and conferences. The remaining tickets go to the Tournament of Roses members, sponsors, City of Pasadena residents, and the general public.
Pre-game activities[]
The game is presided over by the 2014 Rose Queen, the Royal Court, Tournament of Roses President Scott Jenkins, and the Grand Marshal.
After the teams' arrival in Southern California, the teams participate in the traditional Lawry's Beef Bowl in Beverly Hills and the Disney Media Day at Disneyland in nearby Anaheim. The Rose Bowl Hall of Fame ceremony luncheon will be held prior to the game at the Pasadena Convention Center.
The bands and cheerleaders from both schools participate in the pre-game Rose Parade on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California along with the floats.
A USAF B-2 of the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base will perform a fly-over at the end of the National Anthem before the game.
Teams[]
Teams playing in the Rose Bowl game are usually the winners of the Pacific-12 and Big Ten conference championship games, unless one team (or both teams) play in the BCS National Championship game. The teams will be officially selected by the football committee of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association on Selection Sunday on December 8, 2013. Both teams will hold their pre-game practices at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
